Adam Hall and his Nashville Sounds teammates snatched a dramatic 7-6 extra-innings victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Thursday night at First Horizon Park, securing their first walk-off win of the season in the process. Trailing by a significant 6-1 margin, the Sounds mounted a remarkable five-run comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning before Eddie Rosario delivered the decisive blow with a long single in the bottom of the 11th.
The RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, had taken an early 2-1 lead after the second inning and extended that to a comfortable 5-1 advantage by the end of the fourth. Former Sound Alex Jackson further compounded Nashville's woes with his second home run of the game in the top of the seventh, pushing the score to 6-1.
However, Nashville's fightback began in earnest in the bottom of the seventh. Nick Kahle collected his second and third RBIs of the game with a crucial one-out hit. With the bases loaded, Bobby Dalbec then brought the Sounds within one run with a two-RBI single of his own. Ernesto Martinez completed the comeback, knotting the score at 6-6 with an RBI single, although the Sounds were unable to capitalise on the bases-loaded situation to take the lead.
After tying the game, Nashville's bullpen stepped up to keep the RailRiders at bay. Ryan Middendorf worked a scoreless eighth, pitching around a two-out walk. Vinny Nittoli then delivered two high-leverage innings, stranding a runner in scoring position in the top of the ninth. Nittoli continued his impressive work in the top of the tenth, striking out two after a stolen base put the potential go-ahead run on third with no outs. Nashville had a golden opportunity to win it in the bottom of the tenth after loading the bases with just one out, but they couldn't bring the winning run home.
Garrett Stallings took over pitching duties for the Sounds in the 11th and delivered a crucial scoreless inning, striking out the side after the RailRiders had runners on the corners with nobody out.
With two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the 11th, Eddie Rosario stepped up and roped a changeup off the top of the right-field wall for the game-winning RBI single, completing the Sounds' stunning comeback and securing their first walk-off victory of the season in dramatic fashion.
