Daniel Phillips and his No. 40th ranked Arizona State Sun Devils teammates suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of No. 16 Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament.
The Sun Devils now face an anxious wait to discover their seeding and potential opponents for the upcoming NCAA Team Men's Tennis Tournament.
Phillips, a key member of the Arizona State squad, only participated in the doubles competition during the match against Baylor. He partnered with teammate Bor Artnak, but the duo were unable to overcome the Baylor pairing of Os Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinovic, falling to a 6-3 defeat.
Despite Phillips and Artnak's efforts, Baylor proved too strong across the board, securing victories in the other doubles match and all the completed singles encounters to claim a comprehensive 4-0 victory and advance in the Big 12 Tournament.
For Phillips and Arizona State, the focus now shifts to the national stage. Their ranking of 40th suggests they are likely to receive a berth in the prestigious NCAA Team Men's Tennis Tournament. The team will now await the official selection process to learn their fate and begin preparations for the national championships.
