Adam Hall and his Nashville Sounds teammates suffered a heartbreaking defeat in Charlotte on Friday night, as the Knights rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to snatch a 2-1 victory and end the Sounds' three-game winning streak. The Sounds were just two outs away from extending their run, but a late surge from the home side turned the tide.
Nashville's starting pitcher, Tobias Myers, making his third rehab start, delivered an impressive performance, shutting out the Knights over five innings while striking out five and allowing just two hits. Opposite him, Charlotte's Justin Dunn also enjoyed a quality start, limiting the Sounds to three hits across six scoreless frames.
With both starters in command, baserunners were at a premium. Nashville managed five, leaving three stranded, as neither team could break the deadlock until the seventh inning.
The Sounds finally broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh. Three consecutive one-out walks loaded the bases, allowing Jorge Alfaro to score the opening run on a sacrifice fly from Jimmy Herron. However, a subsequent groundout ended the inning, preventing Nashville from adding to their slender lead.
The Nashville bullpen, consisting of Elvis Peguero, Garrett Stallings, and Craig Yoho, combined effectively to work three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits without issuing a walk or recording a strikeout. The Sounds had another opportunity to extend their lead in the top of the ninth, loading the bases once again, but they were unable to capitalize, clinging to a 1-0 advantage heading into the final frame.
Ryan Middendorf came on to close out the game for Nashville in the bottom of the ninth and quickly secured the first out. However, a hit batter was followed by a game-tying RBI double, shifting the momentum dramatically. Just two batters later, the Knights completed a stunning comeback, walking off the Sounds with an RBI single to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory and snap their own nine-game losing streak.
Hall went 1-for-4 on the night. In the top of the 3rd inning, Hall hit a sharp line drive single to right field and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. However, his progress was halted when Oliver Dunn lined into an inning-ending double play, catching Hall attempting to return to second.
Despite a strong pitching performance from Myers and a late lead, the Nashville Sounds will be left to rue missed opportunities as the Charlotte Knights snatched a dramatic victory in the final moments.
