Brijette Basden and her Shaw University's Women's Track and Field teammates have commenced their pursuit of the CIAA Championship, returning to Durham County Memorial Stadium for the second consecutive year. Shaw University are determined to build upon last year's fourth-place finish, where a strong start saw them leading on day one and entering the final day in a commendable second position.
With aspirations of claiming the coveted CIAA title, the Shaw athletes are focused on delivering a consistent and impactful performance throughout the championship meet. The team, including Basden, is aiming to showcase their talent and dedication on the track.
Basden took to the starting blocks in the Women's 200m Preliminaries, competing against a strong field of athletes. She completed the race in 26.65 seconds, placing 28th overall. While the result may not have met her initial expectations, Basden remains a key member of the Shaw team, contributing to their overall championship bid.
Earlier in the day, Basden also participated in the Women's 100m Preliminaries. She crossed the finish line in 12.72 seconds, securing a 23rd place finish. The preliminary races provided valuable experience and insights for Basden and her teammates as they navigate the challenges of the CIAA Championship.
