The Bermuda Bowls Association is pleased to offer all Bermuda residents two free taster sessions where you can try the sport of lawn bowls. Come along to the Bermuda National Sports Center all-weather pitch on any Sunday in March from 1-2pm.
No prior booking is required, nor any previous experience or equipment - please just show up in flat-soled shoes and everything else you need will be provided!
Lawn bowls is an accessible sport for people of almost any age. In the International Island Games in 2023, the age range of competitors ranged from 16 years of age to 80! Players roll purpose-made heavy bowls towards a smaller ball known as a jack, which is 23-36 metres away.
The bowls are biased so they follow a curved path when rolled. Players score points by getting their bowls closer to the jack than their opponents do. What could be simpler?
Lawn bowls is the latest addition to Bermuda’s wide range of sporting opportunities. Following success at the 2023 Games in which Bermuda won a bronze medal in the Open Singles bowls tournament, the Bermuda Bowls Association was founded to encourage participation in the sport in Bermuda.
Our Bronze medallist was David Leach, a former UK junior county champion, and now the President of the Bermuda Bowls Association If you would like to try out the sport - either socially, or perhaps with a view to one day representing Bermuda at the Island Games or the Commonwealth Games - then make a start this Sunday!
