Rain and cooler temperatures in the low 60s provided a stern test for the field in the second round of the Cisco APGA Black History Month Classic at the iconic TPC Sawgrass. Among those battling the elements was Daniel Augustus, who carded a 5-over par 75 to finish the day at 9-over par and in a tie for 35th place.
Augustus began his round on the challenging back nine, experiencing a mixed bag of results in his opening four holes. A bogey was followed by a par and then a birdie, offering a glimpse of his potential. However, a double bogey soon after threatened to derail his round. Showing resilience, Augustus steadied the ship, stringing together five consecutive pars to make the turn at 2-over par.
The front nine presented further challenges. Augustus again mixed a bogey, par, and birdie in his first three holes, maintaining his 2-over score. Back-to-back pars on the 4th and 5th holes were followed by a difficult stretch, with consecutive bogeys and then a double bogey. Augustus finished his round on a high note with a birdie, but it wasn't enough to significantly improve his position. He ended the day with a 5-over par round of 75.
Despite the difficult conditions and a challenging scorecard, Augustus battled hard on the famed TPC Sawgrass course, home of THE PLAYERS Championship. He will look to improve his standing in his next tournament.
