The Florida sun beat down on TPC Sawgrass as Daniel Augustus stepped onto the 10th tee, ready to kick off his 2025 season at the Cisco APGA Black History Month Classic. A wave of nervous excitement washed over him; it was his first competitive round of the year, and the iconic course, home of THE PLAYERS Championship, demanded respect.
Augustus faced a challenging opening round on the famed Stadium Course, finishing with a 4-over par 74 to sit tied for 31st place.
Starting his round on the back nine, Augustus began with a Par, but a Double Bogey on the 11th hole put him on the back foot. He bounced back with a Birdie on the 12th, but another Double Bogey on the 13th, followed by a Bogey on the 14th, saw him reach 4-over par early in his round. Augustus showed resilience with a Birdie on the 16th and another on the 18th to make the turn at 3-over par.
On the front nine, Augustus started with a Birdie to move to 2-over, but a Bogey on the 3rd hole put him back to 3-over. He then carded consecutive pars before a Bogey on the 6th took him to 4-over. A Birdie on the 7th was followed by a par on the 8th, but a closing Bogey on the 9th left him with a 4-over par 74 for the round.
