Caribbean Pickleball Nations Cup Opening Day

The Caribbean Pickleball Nations Cup, presented by Butterfield Bank, got underway at the Pickleball Cayman facility in the Cayman Islands, with Bermuda making a dominant start against the Bahamas.

Bermuda recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory. Sasha Fisher and Imani Phillips got the ball rolling with a resounding 15-0 win over Tricia Fernandes and Erika Knowles in the Women's Doubles.

Gavin Manders and Benjamin Jones continued Bermuda's strong performance in the Men's Doubles, defeating Justyn Thompson and Brezile Hamilton 15-8.

The Mixed Doubles One match saw Manders and Fisher team up again to secure a 15-2 victory over Hamilton and Knowles, putting Bermuda 3-0 up.

Jones and Phillips completed the shutout in the Mixed Doubles Two match, defeating Fernandes and Kevaughn Ferguson 15-8.

The Bermuda team would fall 3 - 1 to Cayman Islands in their second match, Phillips, and Fisher got Bermuda on the board winning the Women’s Doubles 15 - 10 over Jess Murrie, and Zsuzsanna Strommer.

Jaden, and Benjamin Jones went down 15 - 5 in the Men’s Doubles to Yaniv Semo, and Payten Wight, in the first Mixed Double match Phillips, and Benjamin Jones went down 15 - 3 to Elena Testori, and Michael Carse, while Fisher, and Michael Russell went down 15 - 6 to Mark Rawlins, and Anita Warhurst.

Game Three for Bermuda saw them defeat Trinidad and Tobago 3 - 1. Fisher and Phillips remained unbeaten on the day in Women’s Doubles, defeating Anabelle Castagne, and Gabriella Sabeeney 15 - 1.

Benjamin Jones, and Russell then defeated Jesse Butts, and Logan Hamel-Smith 15 - 1 in Men’s Doubles action, while Benjamin Jones, and Phillips then won the first Mixed Doubles match 15 - 2 defeating Butts, and Castagne, and then Jaden Jones, and Naphisa Smith went down to Hamel-Smith , and Liselle James 15 - 4.

The Bermuda Open team moved to 3 & 1 after they defeated Antigua & Barbuda 4 - 0. Phillips would team up with Smith in the Women’s Doubles and they would defeat Ana Marie Joseph, and Barbara Coates 15 - 4.

Benjamin, and Jaden Jones would then win the Men’s Doubles 15 - 0 over Bryan Micon, and Mike Evans, Smith and Benjamin Jones won the first Mixed Doubles match 15 - 8 over Micon, and Joseph, and then the second Mixed Doubles match saw Jaden Jones, and Phillips defeated Myra Francis, and Matt Woodward15 - 0.

It was a tough start for the Bermuda Seniors team as they went down 4 - 0 to the Cayman Islands. Marie-Helene Pare, and Myra Virgil went down 15 - 2 in the Women’s Doubles to Kimberly Fehm-Corallo, and Claire Roscoe.

The Men’s Doubles team of George Thomas, and Vincent Chaves went down 15 - 5 to Munir Ali, and David Allott, while in the Mixed Doubles First match Chaves, and Pare went down 15 - 3, and then Virgil, and Thomas went down 15 - 2 to Ali, and Roscoe.
