Updated with Comments from Sam Williamson, fresh off his national record-breaking swim in the 200m Individual Medley, returned to the pool at the World Aquatics Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest for the grueling 400mIndividual Medley.
Despite a strong effort, Williamson couldn't replicate his record-breaking feat in the longer distance. Competing in Heat 1, he finished seventh with a time of 4:23.25, placing him 37th overall.
While he didn't break any records this time, Williamson's performance in the 200m IM earlier in the meet remains a highlight. He shattered the Bermudian national record, showcasing his versatility and talent on the world stage.
With the World Championships nearing its end, Williamson can reflect on a successful campaign. He proved his ability to compete against the best in the world and will undoubtedly use this experience to fuel his future swimming endeavors.
Williamson said to www.islandstats,com, “I am slightly disappointed with the time today. Another record would have been amazing. I'm not sure the 4 day gap between races helped me but I shouldn't be too hard on myself - it was a season best and not too far off my Personal Best.
I have had a great time at the Championships, it has been a fantastic experience and one I will learn from. Competing against the best in the world and those who I look up to in the sport has inspired me to keep working hard and being the best swimmer I can be.
I am incredibly proud to represent Bermuda at the World Championships and would like to thank Coach Shona and my teammates Logan and EJ for making it such a valuable experience.”
