Former world champion brings a wealth of experience to the Jayhawks program.
In a major coup for their Track and Field program, the University of Kansas has secured the services of former World Champion Triple Jumper Brian Wellman as their new jumps coach.
Islandstats.com was first to report the news, after Wellman confirmed he will oversee both the Long Jump and Triple Jump disciplines for the Jayhawks.
Wellman, a Bermudian legend, boasts an illustrious athletic career. He captured the World Indoor title in 1995 with a championship record leap of 17.72 meters, a mark that still stands as the Bermudian National Record. His outdoor personal best of 17.62 meters is also a National Record.
Before his international success, Wellman starred collegiately for the University of Arkansas, where he clinched two NCAA outdoor Triple Jump titles. His experience competing at the highest level, combined with his coaching expertise, makes him an invaluable addition to the Jayhawks.
Wellman's appointment is a statement of intent from Kansas, signaling their ambition to elevate their jumps program to new heights. With his guidance, the Jayhawks' long and triple jumpers will be looking to make their own mark on the collegiate scene.
