The Indoor Track and Field season is officially underway, and UMBC senior Za'Kayza Parsons wasted no time making her presence felt. At the St. John's University Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational, Parsons delivered a strong performance in both the 60-meter dash and the Long Jump, setting the stage for an exciting senior campaign.
The electricity in the air was palpable as Parsons stepped onto the Track for the 60m dash. With the starting pistol's crack, she exploded out of the blocks, a picture of pure speed and power. Clocking in at 7.80 seconds, Parsons finished fourth in her Heat and fifth overall – a solid start to her season.
But Parsons wasn't done. The Women’s Long Jump is where she truly shines, and she didn't disappoint. After a couple of warm-up jumps, she found her rhythm. On her third attempt, she launched herself into the air, soaring an impressive 5.42 meters or 17 feet, 9.50 inches to secure a sixth-place finish.
While she didn't hit any Personal Bests, Parsons' performance was a statement of intent. She's hungry for success in her final year with UMBC, and this meet was just a taste of what she's capable of.
With the Indoor Season just beginning, Parsons has plenty of opportunities to showcase her talents and chase those personal bests. One thing's for sure: she's off to a flying start, and she's ready to soar to new heights.
