Despite a career-high 6.1 innings from starter K.C. Hunt, nine unanswered runs from the Montgomery Biscuits between the eighth and ninth innings led to a 9-3 loss for Adam Hall’s Biloxi Shuckers teammates at Keesler Federal Park.
Hall was not in the line-up a night after being Ejected.
The game started as a pitcher’s duel between K.C. Hunt and Biscuits’ starter Duncan Davitt. The pair each tossed five shutout innings before the Shuckers struck with back-to-back doubles from Eric Brown Jr. and Connor Scott to begin the sixth to take a 1-0 lead. The Shuckers then expanded the lead to 3-0 with a two-run shot from Ernesto Martinez Jr., the next batter. Martinez’s blast, his 11th of the season, traveled 413 feet and was off the bat at 109 MPH.
For the Shuckers, K.C. Hunt worked into the seventh for the first time in his career and finished his night with a career-best 6.1 shutout innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Over his first four Double-A starts, Hunt has a 2.38 ERA with 29 strikeouts and two walks in 22.2 innings.
In the eighth, the Biscuits knotted the game at three with a three-run home run from Dominic Keegan and then took a 4-3 lead with an RBI triple from Willy Vasquez later in the inning, scoring Dru Baker from first. In the ninth, a two-run single from Tanner Murray expanded the lead to 6-3. Later in the inning, an RBI groundout from Baker and a two-RBI double from Vasquez expanded the lead to 9-3. Nate Dahle (2-0) earned the win for the Biscuits while Will Childers (1-3) took the loss for the Shuckers.
