Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field Hockey teammates returned home to Bessant Field to collect a 3-1 win over Converse College.
The South Atlantic Conference Carolinas win keeps Queens undefeated in league play at 5-0 while improving their overall record to 7-3. Converse College drop to 1-11 on the year and 1-6 in conference play after being swept in the home-and-home series with Queens. Karla von Ehren, Millie Eaton-Jones, and Jill Sherman each recorded goals in the win while Renee Smith recorded an assist. Queens outshot the Valkyries 17-5, putting 13 shots on goal. Von Ehren led Queens in shots with four, placing two on frame. Mazvita Mtisi and Eaton-Jones also put two shots on goal. Jet van den Berg recorded the win in goal today after totaling two saves. Queens’ first goal of the day came from Von Ehren in the seventh. The forward was able to rebound a saved shot and put the ball in the back of the cage to give Queens a 1-0 lead. Eaton-Jones then added a goal in the 27th firing the ball from the just inside the circle past Converse's defense to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Not even a minute later, Sherman added one more point to the board on a feed from Smith to put the Royals in front 3-0 before the half. Cara Burton recorded the lone goal of the day for Converse in the second half after receiving a pass from Victoria Bailey. For the game, Converse totaled just five shots.
