Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field Hockey teammates traveled to Mansfield, Pennsylvania to face Mansfield University in a nonconference game, winning 3-2 over the Mounties. Queens now sit 2-1 on the year while Mansfield drops to 3-1 after suffering its first loss of the season.
Despite grabbing the win, Queens was outshot 43-11 putting nine shots on goal to Mansfield's 25. However, Lanie Walsh and Jet van den Berg came up huge splitting time in the net to combine for 23 saves. For the second game in a row, Van den Berg held the Royals' opponent scoreless in the second half of action.
Mansfield struck first finding the back of the net in the second minute of play before Queens' Mazvita Mtisi responded with her first goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1 in the 14th. Christie Buyer then put her team in front scoring another goal for Mansfield just before the halftime break.
In the second period, Queens' defense held Mansfield scoreless while the offensive unit put two more points on the board to help secure the victory. Mtisi scored the game-tying goal in the 47th minute beating the Mounties' goalkeeper one-on-one after leaving her defender behind on a breakaway. She then assisted Jill Sherman in scoring the game-winner in the 67th.
