Clarke and Queens University of Charlotte Win Opener
Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field hockey teammates opened their inaugural season this afternoon against Southern New Hampshire University at the Queens Sports Complex, coming away today's victor. The Royals outscored the Penmen 2-1, to get off to a 1-0 start on the year. Southern New Hampshire falls to 1-1 on the season after being handed their first loss of the year.

Sophomore midfielder Mazvita Mtisi scored the game winner today with an unassisted goal just 46 seconds into play. Mtisi then tallied an assist on the Royals' second goal scored by Hanna Nechay at 18:02. Mtisi would find Nechay open in the middle for the score following a breakaway up the field.

"The team was pumped today to get the season started, said Queens Head Coach Brandi Kist. "I think that showed with the first goal less than a minute into the game. We are really pleased with the whole team effort to earn the win today. Southern New Hampshire was a great match up with a tough defense and we really had to work for our offensive opportunities. Our team has so much energy and excitement in our inaugural season and this was a great way to get things started. We look forward to continuing our progress building on today's successes."

The Royals would hold their 2-0 lead until the 65th minute of play when the Penmen got on the board with a goal from Amaris Taylor. Erin Frost collected the assist on the play. Queens then turned up the defensive pressure not allowing the Penmen to get another shot off before time expired.
