Meanwhile five Bermudians headed off to Wilmington compete in the 70.3 North Carolina.
Steve Smith a veteran to the distance along with 4 sprightly young first timers, Caroline Wright, Mel Sousa, Christine Soutter and Jennie Lightbourne all took up the challenge.
Smith finished 58th in the Men’s 45-49 Age Group Division and 390th overall with a time of 5:20:39, that included a 30 minute delay after getting a flat tire. Smith clocked 27:34 on the Swim, 2:57:09 on the Bike Course before clocking a Run time of 1:46:24.
Soutter was 40th in the Women’s 40-45 Age Group Division and 737th overall, she clocked an overall time of 5:46:10, she completed the Swim in 28:55, she then clocked 2:48:18 on the Bike, before clocking 2:18:50 on the Run Course.
Lightbourne clocked a time of 6:45:12 to finish the Women’s 40-44 Age Group Division in 95th place and 1,527th overall. Lightbourne came out of the water in a time of 32:10, she then clocked 3:09:02 on the Bike before closing out with a time of 2:53:12 on the Run Course.
With a time of 5:58:36 saw Caroline Wright finish 50th in the Women’s 40 – 44 Age Group Division and she finished 926th overall, Wright clocked 26:07 on the Swim, 2:52:05 on the Bike and 2:31:13 on the Run Course.
Sousa was clocked at 8:39:34 finishing 122nd in the Women’s 45-49 Age Group Division and 2,183rd overall. Sousa clocked 43:23 on the Swim, before recording a time of 4:31:52 on the Bike Course, she would then finish with a time of 3:07:46 on the Run Course.
