Karen Smith and Louise Wells competed in the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice France, along the glittering Cote d’Azur.

Wells competing in the Women’s 45 – 49 Age Group Division, crossed the line 503rd overall and 46th in the Division clocking a time of 5:43:15.

Wells clocked 38:22 on the Swim, she then clocked 3:16:21 on the Bike Course, before recording a time of 1:41:54 on the Run Course.

Unfortunately Smith did not finish, she completed the Swim in a time of 34:32, Smith would then complete the Bike Course in a time of 3:28:08, but did not complete the Run.

Smith said via Social Media, “I am pretty disappointing DNF! Only time I’ve ever had a DNF was in Honolulu in 2005 when a car crashed into me. Anyway I was riding the main climb (10k up) here and just after I crested I felt some sharp pains in my inner thigh. Not sure if it’s just strained from the climb but it never settled down so I basically coasted to T2. Thankfully it was downhill but I just could not put any pressure on the pedals. Standing up was impossible and my dismount into T2 was challenging as I couldn’t bare any weight on it. I didn’t dare even try to run so called it a day and hope to recover in time for Kona. Obviously very disappointed but these things happen sometimes. Very grateful to even be here though.”
