Yesterday www.islandstats.com reported Erica Hawley recorded a Did Not Finish while competing in the Nur-Sultan World Cup Triathlon in Kazakhstan.
Today we bring you comments made by Hawley following the event she posted on social media.
Hawley wrote, “I’m leaving Nur-Sultan with blood, sweat and tears, and my first DNF.
Firstly, the race got changed to a Duathlon: 5km Run, 40km Bike and 10km Run due to water quality, but hey ho that’s pretty common nowadays.
The first 1km into the run, splat I’m on the ground trampled over and left in the dust, due to officials leaving cones in the middle of the course, and I was then left playing catch-up.
I started the bike in pretty much last position but managed to fight my way to the lead pack with the help of a few girls and clock the 2nd fastest Bike Split.
I started the 10km cooked and after feeling nauseous and hurt, I decided to pull out. Many mixed emotions, but it’s all part of racing.”
Hawley concluded, “Also, it was inspiring watching teammates Wian Sullwald and Matt McElroy round out the podium in the Men’s race, and I am wishing Kyleigh Spearing a speedy recovery on her 2nd broken arm! I’m starting to think I’m her bad luck charm.”
