Erica Hawley Reflects on Elite Triathlon Championships

IslandStats.com
Following her 4th place finish over the weekend in the North American Junior Elite Triathlon Championships, Erica Hawley spoke about her overall performance.

Hawley said, “Coming into it I had a pretty bad week of training following the Costa Rica race and the travel, my body was still recovering, but I was excited to race again.”

“I was really happy with my swim - it’s always hard to gage where you are in the water but as I entered I was really happy with my positioning. I managed to get on the lead pack after working hard for the majority of the first lap. We worked as a unit quite well and then it was the Run,” continued Hawley.

Hawley went on to say, “My coach had told me to take the first 400 no quicker than race pace so that's what I did. I eased into the first 1km and then after 1 lap I felt strong and started passing a couple people in front of me, by then I had made up a lot of time and was chasing 3rd.”

“For the last 500m we were together and that left a sprint finish where I was just knocked down to 4th, even though this is probably the worst position I was extremely happy with my result,” continued Hawley.

Hawley concluded, “I ran almost 1:30 faster than last year at this course and my overall time was almost 4 minutes quicker, so a lot of positives to come out of this race and I’m feeling even more prepared for the Digicel Continental Cup in Bermuda.”
