Power Too Strong for Butterfield Bermuda Field

IslandStats.com
The 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship was one for the ages as Seamus Power outlasted the field to win the tournament. Power, -19, posted a score of 70 in the Final Round Fueled by Rubis to win by one stroke. From Waterford, Ireland, he claimed his second PGA TOUR win with rounds of 65-65-65-70=265. His 28 total birdies are a new tournament record, surpassing the 27 by Brendon Todd in 2019. Power earned $1.17 million and 500 FedExCup points.

Thomas Detry finished in second place at -18, 266, after a final round 67. He carded six birdies and two bogeys on the day, including five birdies in his last nine holes. Detry, from Brussels, Belgium, had his best finish previously on the PGA TOUR (T9) at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.

Ben Griffin, from Chapel Hill, N.C., held a two-stroke lead twice in the final round. After a birdie on #11, he got to -23 and up two shots before four straight bogeys and a double bogey allowed Power to seize the lead for good. Hole #14 saw a two-stroke swing as Power birdied and Griffin bogeyed, flipping the leader positions. Griffin finished T3 with Kevin Yu and Patrick Rodgers at -17, 267.

Garrick Higgo tied the tournament record for most birdies during his round of 64 today. He carded 10 birdies, but interestingly he never had more than two birdies in a row during the round. He matched the mark set by Brendon Todd in the 2019 final round and tied by Higgo himself in the 3rd round last year. Higgo posted seven birdies through three rounds this week before the double-digit outburst today.
