www.islandstats.com made inquiries to the President of the Bermuda Driving Horse and Pony Club Charles E. Whited Jr. after rumors that horses taking part in Harness Pony Racing had results tested positive.
President Whited Jr. said, “Further to the queries raised, the Driving Horse and Pony Club (“DHPC”) issues the following statement:
“In accordance with the Drug Testing Protocol of the DHPC Rule Book, random drug testing took place on February 23rd, 2019 at our Champion of Champion Stakes Race weekend. We can confirm that the DHPC did receive back positive results for banned substances for two ponies that were competing in the Stakes races. In further accordance with the Rule Book, a Disciplinary Committee was appointed and the process and punishments have been administered.
The DHPC takes very seriously the welfare of the racing animals and the drivers and the prohibited nature of performance enhancing substances and has therefore managed the situation accordingly. In accordance with our Club policy, we will not provide further comment on the individuals or persons involved as we respect the confidentiality of or members.”
