IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA), in partnership with United States Track and Field (USATF), is excited to bring to the island the return of the most-anticipated USATF Bermuda Grand Prix as the perfect prelude to Paris for this summer’s Olympic Games. The premier track and field event will be broadcast live on NBC on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 3pm-7pm from the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the Bermuda National Sports Center. Tickets are now available for purchase at BDATix.bm.

Celebrity all-star athletes such as the newest Fastest Man in the World, Noah Lyles (USA), the Fastest Woman Alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah (Jamaica) and Abby Steiner (USA), will line up against top track and field athletes from over 20 countries in what promises to be an adrenaline-fueled lead-up to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Bermuda's Olympic hopefuls, Dage Minors and Jah-Nhai Perinchief, will also take center stage, seeking to secure their places in Paris.

The USATF Bermuda Grand Prix weekend isn't just about the pros; it's a celebration of athleticism for all. Beyond the professional Track & Field Championships, the event will provide exciting opportunities for Bermuda's emerging talents. Participants can engage in the eagerly awaited Athene’s Fastest Kid on de Rock challenge. Additionally, spectators can cheer on Bermuda's top athletes during the Special Olympics races.

Tracy Berkeley, CEO of Bermuda Tourism Authority, stated: “Hosting the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix reflects our strategic intent to position Bermuda as a leading destination for sports tourism, in line with our National Tourism Plan objectives. We are proud to organize the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix for the third consecutive year, a premier event that continues to draw attention from both local and international sports enthusiasts and spectators. It affirms Bermuda’s capacity to host events of this caliber and reinforces our standing as a first-class venue for major sports competitions.”

The USATF Bermuda Grand Prix official announcement was made during a press conference earlier this month at the Bermuda National Sports Centre, which brought together key figures, including The Hon. Minister Owen Darrell, JP, Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Brad Molitor, President of Athene Life Re, and Hazel Clark, Director of Global Business Development for BTA, who shared insights on the event's significance and impact on the island's community and visitors.

Brad Molitor, President of Athene Life Re remarked, "We believe in the power of sport to inspire the young minds of Bermuda. Athene's Fastest Kid on de Rock races are platforms where the champions of tomorrow can begin their journey today."

Hazel Clark, 3x US Olympian and Director of Global Business Development at BTA, added, “Sport has the power to unify and inspire, and the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix exemplifies this on Bermuda's shores. With the unwavering support of global apparel brand Puma, this world-class event showcases our island's natural beauty and our commitment to excellence, attracting visitors from around the world. It's not just an athletic competition; it's a driver of economic activity and a magnet for tourism, reinforcing our status as a destination of choice for global sports enthusiasts and spectators.”
