David Patrick continues his recovery from an Achilles injury. Just prior to the Australia Men’s Basketball team heading to Tokyo, Assistant Coach Patrick was injured during training.
With the injury, Patrick withdrew from the team, with Basketball Australia releasing a statement, “We are very disappointed that Assistant Coach David Patrick cannot travel to Tokyo due to an Achilles injury. Patrick is being replaced by former Boomer John Rillie.”
Patrick is keeping a close eye on the team's progress in Tokyo, congratulating the team on their latest win which was a 97 – 59 victory over Argentina.
Patrick wrote on Social Media, “Great job Australia keep making US all PROUD. We are BUILT for the Next Challenge.”
The win sets up a blockbuster Semi-Final clash with the United States. If Australia can beat the reigning champions – who they defeated in a pre-Games warm-up in Las Vegas – they will play for a Gold Medal on Saturday. Lose to the Americans and Australia will face either France or Slovenia in yet another battle for Bronze.
