Department of Youth & Sport Host Coaching Seminar

IslandStats.com
The Department of Youth, Sport & Recreation recognizes that there is a unique body of knowledge vital to enabling sport coaches to effectively perform their many roles. Formal coaching education opportunities are a primary tool for transferring such information to all coaches to ensure they are well trained for all situations. To provide this opportunity, the Department has partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Positive Coaching Alliance believes in encouraging athletes with positive reinforcement as it helps them heed the necessary corrections. With a combination of truthful, specific praise and constructive criticism, athletic performance improves and so do the chances that junior athletes commit with sports longer and learn all the valuable life lessons inherently available through organized competition.

Coaching modules include:

• Developing Competitors
• Double-Goal Coach: Culture, Practices and Games
• Positive Motivation: Getting the Best from Athletes
• Mastery: Coaching for Peak Performance

These workshops will build on each other over the course of the time we visit. Developing Competitors will give coaches the understanding of the PCA principles of Emotional Tanks, ROOTS of Honoring the Game and the ELM Tree of Mastery. Culture, Practices and Games will help coaches take those principles and build them into their team culture, as well as practice and game planning.

Positive Motivation will dive deeper into the Emotional Tank concept, and coaches will practice having constructive discussions and meetings with their athletes, promoting a message of self-improvement, and learning how to provide corrective criticism without draining their emotional tank.

Finally, Mastery will dive into the ELM Tree, Effort is ongoing, Learning process continues with effort, and Mistakes are ok and will provide learning opportunities. This will help coaches see the value of individual skill development in their athletes that will lead to greater team success.

All coaches interested must complete the application and return it to the Department or electronically to msbutterfield@gov.bm no later than Friday April 20th, 2018. Please review the application carefully and fill out all information outlined in the document.
