Lindo’s Group of Companies today announces that the 2018 Lindo’s to Lindo’s races will take place on Sunday, March 4th. The event has been organised to encourage the public to get moving and to raise funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association’s education programs and the renovation of a building purchased to house a fully comprehensive Diabetes Resource Centre.
The route between Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick and Lindo’s Market in Devonshire will see participants walk four miles or run 10 kilometres between the two landmark stores.
Last year’s event raised $25,860 for the BDA from entrance fees and pledges, with ten-year-old Jannis Roberts, a student at St George’s Preparatory, raising the most money individually, with over $700 in pledges. This year, the individual who raises the most money will win a pair of round trip airline tickets to the East Coast of the United States, kindly donated by JetBlue.
Entrants must register by February 28 to take part and the first 1,000 entrants will receive a goodie bag and tee shirt for registering.
Prizes will be awarded to winners in the following categories for the 10K Run:
• Male and Female Overall • Male and Female Junior (aged over 12 and under 20) • Open (aged 20 to 39) • Master (aged 40 to 49) • Senior Master (aged 50 to 59) • Veteran (aged 60 to 64) • Senior Veteran (aged 65 to 69), • Experienced Veteran (aged 70+)
There will be awards for the first male and female finishers of Italian descent, in memory of Aldo Balia.
There will also be prizes for the fastest competitive walkers in the 4-Mile Walk and prizes for the school and company that enter the most students or employees to either event. The 10K Run will begin at 8:30am and the entrance fees are as follows:
• Adults - $40 • Juniors (over 12 and under 20 on race day) - $20 • MAAC gold members - $7 • MAAC Members - $30
The 4-Mile Walk will begin five minutes later, at 8:35am, and the costs for entry are:
• Adults - $30 • Juniors (under 20 on race day) - $20 • Late entry at Saturday numbers pickup - $45
There is no entry fee for those who raise over $100, or a reduced fee of $15 for those registering late.
The money raised for the BDA will go towards the charity’s operating costs and their new building on Dundonald Street. The charity’s work is vital in Bermuda which has an extraordinarily high rate of diabetes of 13 per cent, almost twice the global average.
Zach Moniz, Lindo’s Family Foods Manager, said: “Lindo’s is dedicated to encouraging healthy lifestyles and we are proud to support the incredibly valuable work that the Bermuda Diabetes Association does for the community. This event is an opportunity to raise money for a good cause and to get out in the fresh air – a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.”
Sara Bosch de Noya, Diabetes Educator, at the Bermuda Diabetes Association, said: “We are so pleased to be working with Lindo’s again for the annual Lindo’s to Lindo’s Walk. The funds that we raise from this event will bring us a step closer to the opening of our own Diabetes Resource Centre, which will enable us to offer exciting new programmes and initiatives to help reduce the prevalence of diabetes and assist those living with diabetes to live well.”
Those who want to take part can register online at www.racedayworld.com, pick up a form at Lindo’s stores or print off an entrance form here: http://www.lindos.bm/lindos-lindos-road-race-2018/.
