Bermuda Paralympian Lewis Wins Brook University Award

Bermuda Paralympian Jessica Lewis, won the 2017 Brock University Accessibility and Inclusion Award.
Lewis said, “I am extremely humbled to have received the 2017 Accessibility and Inclusion Award! I like many other differently abled individuals have had many different stereotypes and stigmas put on us about what we can and can’t do so I have always made it a mission of mine to help anyway I can to break through those walls to create a more inclusive world.
Lewis also had the opportunity to meet and listen to Lieutenant General the Honorable Roméo Dallaire. He spoke about his experiences serving as Force Commander of the United Nations peacekeeping effort during the Rwandan genocide in 1993/94 and the impact it had on him and other veterans. To highlight the International Day of Persons with Disabilities he talked about PTSD and the importance of providing support and recognizing people around us who struggle with mental health or invisible disabilities.
