Bermuda’s young riders delivered an impressive opening display at the 2026 Caribbean Junior Road Cycling Championships in Belize, capturing two silver medals in Saturday's individual time trials.
Dylan Eiselt and Jacob Wright led the charge against the clock, with the four-strong contingent producing top-ten finishes across both the juvenile and junior divisions.
Eiselt Takes Silver on Debut
Making his debut at the regional championships, Dylan Eiselt claimed silver in the 15-kilometre Juvenile Men's time trial, crossing the line in 21 minutes 23.72 seconds.
Belize’s Ahmaad Cherrington took gold on home roads in 20:41.24, with Matthew Briggs-Legall of Barbados taking bronze in 21:56.91. Bermuda's Jens Drea narrowly missed out on joining Eiselt on the podium, finishing fourth in 22:15.25.
Wright Builds on Regional Pedigree
In the 20-kilometre Junior Men's event, Jacob Wright added to his burgeoning regional record by securing Bermuda’s second silver of the day in 26:44.95. The ride marked Wright's second consecutive time-trial medal at the championships, following his juvenile bronze in Barbados last year.
Cayman Islands rider Ryan Thompson took the junior title in 26:03.44, while Barbados' Jonah Kelly rounded out the podium with bronze in 27:05.27. Bermuda's Keon Stevens finished ninth with a time of 33:06.94.
'Proud of All Four Riders'
"We are extremely proud of all four riders," said Peter Dunne, President of the Bermuda Bicycle Association.
"Dylan and Jacob delivered excellent rides to earn their silver medals, while Jens came very close to the podium in fourth. Keon showed determination to complete a demanding time trial. They represented Bermuda well, and the entire team can take confidence from today into the road races."
Road Races Await on Sunday
The championships conclude on Sunday with the road race events.
Wright and Stevens will contest the 93.6-kilometre Junior Men’s road race, while Eiselt, Drea, and Jonah MacGuinness take to the start line for the 62.4-kilometre Juvenile Men’s event.
