The focus of the 2026 Bermuda Triple Challenge shifted to the grueling sand and surf of the south shore today for the second leg of the weekend, the Butterfield & Vallis Island Challenge. After the tight urban sprint in St. George’s, the athletes faced a punishing test of endurance across the dunes and military-style obstacles of Warwick Camp.
In the Men’s Individual Division, Lourens de Coning delivered a dominant performance to claim the top spot. De Coning navigated the taxing coastal course in a winning time of 53:14.61, showing remarkable strength through the heavy sand sections. He was pushed hard by Jermiah Steede, who secured second place in 54:09.24, while Marquette Shumate claimed the final podium spot with a time of 1:00:49.66.
The Women’s Individual race saw Theresa Patricios rise to the occasion, crossing the line as the 11th participant overall in a time of 1:31:32.52. Following closely behind was Fahima Nakamanya, who secured her second podium finish of the weekend as the second female finisher in 1:33:24.70. Sue Weiss completed the women’s top three, finishing 13th overall with a time of 1:36:32.67.
In the Competitive Team of 3, The Divine Shower Handles—comprised of Max Sallee, Robin Dreyer, and Scott Oliver—took the honours. The trio showcased excellent coordination to clear the 25-plus obstacles in a combined time of 2:36:41.3, effectively putting themselves in a strong position ahead of tomorrow’s finale.
With two days down and only the Chubb Royal Challenge remaining at the Royal Naval Dockyard, the overall standings are beginning to take shape. The athletes now face one final assault on the obstacles as the "Triple" reaches its conclusion in the West End.
