The historic streets of St. George’s were transformed into a grueling obstacle arena this weekend as the 2026 Bermuda Triple Challenge roared into life.

In a spectacular opening day that tested both raw speed and physical durability, the UNESCO World Heritage site provided a stunning backdrop for the first leg of the three-day functional fitness event. With a mix of urban sprinting and high-intensity obstacles, two names emerged as the clear frontrunners for the overall titles.

In the Individual Men’s Division, Cody Lima delivered a masterclass in efficiency. Lima tore through the course to claim an emphatic victory, stopping the clock in a blistering 18:07. His nearest rival, Philip Woollins, secured second place in 20:40, while Jack Caccioppo rounded out the podium with a solid time of 24:04.

The Women’s Division saw Steph Lee assert her dominance early on. Lee’s performance was particularly impressive as she secured seventh place overall in the entire field, clocking in at 26:49.

Trish Chillemi followed as the second female finisher, placing 14th overall with a time of 35:07, while Fahima Nakamanya claimed the third female spot and 15th overall, crossing the line just behind in 35:59.

The Competitive Team of 3 Division proved to be a tighter affair, with tactical coordination proving just as vital as individual strength.

The aptly named Obstakillas, featuring the trio of Alex Southern, Alexander Miller, and Brianna Ray, emerged victorious after a relentless display, finishing in 22:21. They were closely pursued by the Trio de Mayonnaise—Dominic White, Greg Palmer, and Phil Simpson—who took second place with a time of 23:12.

The final podium spot went to Team BFB, as Frederique Wagener, Kurt Thomas, and Steph Chai navigated the course in 23:32 to keep themselves within striking distance heading into the second day of competition.

The Triple Challenge is far from over, as the athletes now transition from the tight corners of St. George's to the taxing sand and surf of the south shore for the next stage. With Lima and Lee holding significant leads, the pressure is on the chasing pack to find an answer before the final showdown at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

The event continues tomorrow, with organizers expecting even larger crowds as the difficulty level ramps up on the island’s famous beaches.
