Renegades & Teachers Dominate Rugby @ Sports Center

The Bermuda Rugby Football Union league season resumed with a flurry of scoring at the National Sports Center, as the island’s top clubs shook off the mid-season rust in a series of high-octane encounters.

The Ladies' Division opened with a clinical display from the Renegades, who proved too powerful for the Police in a one-sided affair. Jessica Cassidy was the standout performer for the victors, crossing the whitewash three times to secure a hat-trick and set the tone for the afternoon. She was supported by a double from Cat Morris and a single effort from Lisa Brennan, while the reliable boot of Laura Mulligan added three conversions to seal a 36–10 victory. Despite the defeat, the Police found a bright spark in Akila Craig, who managed to breach the Renegades' defence twice to maintain her side’s presence on the scoreboard.

In the second match of the ladies' doubleheader, the Teachers delivered a masterclass in attacking rugby to overwhelm the Bermudianas. Lysmeire Santana spearheaded the assault with an exceptional individual performance, scoring three tries and adding two conversions for a personal haul of 19 points. Christina Halliday added a brace, while Lauren Rothwell, Heidi Groves, and Rickilee Pitcher each found the try line to complete a comprehensive 44–10 win. The Bermudianas fought bravely until the final whistle, with Quin Burgess and Zaria Codrington both securing tries for their side.

The Men's Division provided the afternoon’s most prolific contest, as the Police outlasted the Renegades in a high-scoring 50–31 thriller. The Police attack was relentless throughout, with Shoji Aqui, Jaden Hill, and Scott Clarke all recording two tries each. Hadleigh Tucker proved to be a dual threat, not only touching down for a try of his own but also demonstrating clinical accuracy from the tee with five successful conversions. Alex Dowling also added to the tally as the Police reached the half-century mark.

The Renegades refused to go quietly, led by a monumental effort from Alex Brown. Brown mirrored the scoring feat of his female counterpart from earlier in the day, securing a hat-trick of tries and adding three conversions of his own. Despite further scores from Calum Maule and Dzuri Gill, the Renegades were unable to close the gap created by the explosive Police offence. The result leaves the Police in a strong position as the league standings begin to take shape following the mid-season break.
