The third-seeded University of Dayton men's soccer team advanced in the Atlantic 10 Tournament after dispatching the No. 6 seed VCU Rams 4-2 in a hard-fought Quarter-Final match at Baujan Field.
The crucial victory was sealed by sophomore Andrew Armstrong, who delivered his second game-winning goal of the season in the late stages of the contest.
The game was a tight, back-and-forth battle that saw the score deadlocked at 2-2 deep into the second half.
Armstrong, who also recorded his team-best fourth assist of the season, found the net when it mattered most. With the game tied in the 71st minute, Armstrong unleashed a decisive one-touch shot from outside the box that found the bottom corner of the net, netting his second game-winning goal of the season and putting Dayton ahead 3-2.
Dayton then added a late goal to secure the final score of 4-2. The victory was spearheaded by junior Martin Bakken, who scored twice, marking his first multi-goal match of the season.
Dayton’s win over VCU brings the Rams' 2025 campaign to a close with a 6-6-5 record. For Dayton, the victory extends their unbeaten streak to five games, including three consecutive wins, pushing their record to 7-2-7 on the season. They now advance to the A-10 Semi-Finals, with their opponent to be determined after the final Quarter-Final results.
