Sandys Secondary Middle School were crowned champions of the Bermuda School Sports Federations (BSSF) Middle School Under 12 Six-a-Side Tournament, defeating The Whitney Institute 2-0 in a decisive final at Shelly Bay.
The West Enders wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Cove Bailey giving them the crucial early lead, scoring in the very first minute of the match. Sandys managed to hold onto that narrow advantage through to the half-time whistle, despite both teams creating numerous chances in the tightly contested match.
The victory was sealed in the most dramatic fashion in the final minute of the game. Kimmori Azzario Woods rose highest to head home a corner kick, securing the 2-0 win for the champions and confirming Sandys' superiority on the day.
Sandys’ path to the final was marked by a dominant performance in the semi-finals, where they defeated Warwick Academy 4-0. In that match, both final goalscorers shone brightly, with Cove Bailey and Kimmori Azzario Woods each netting twice to send their team through.
Whitney Institute’s journey to the final was more nervy; they battled Saltus Grammar School through a scoreless semi-final before eventually prevailing in a tense penalty shootout to earn their place against Sandys.
