Berkeley Green have been crowned the Bermuda School Sports Federations (BSSF) Senior School Girls Six-a-Side Champions after defeating CedarBridge Academy 1-0 in a tightly contested final at the Berkeley Institute School Field.
The decisive moment came early in the first half when Callae Gibbons emerged as the hero, scoring the lone goal that would ultimately seal the championship for Berkeley. Following the goal, the Berkeley defence stood firm, denying CedarBridge any opportunity to claw their way back into the tense, low-scoring encounter.
Both finalists had endured dramatic semi-final encounters, with penalty shootouts deciding their fate:
CedarBridge Academy reached the final after a goalless battle against Warwick Academy concluded with a penalty shootout, which CedarBridge successfully navigated.
Berkeley Green faced a demanding semi-final against Bermuda High School (BHS). Preya Dill gave Berkeley the first-half lead, but Chloe Curling equalised for BHS, taking the score to 1-1 before the match went to penalties.
The true star of the semi-final shootout was Berkeley goalkeeper Sydney Denkins, who delivered an heroic performance by saving five of the six penalties faced, single-handedly guiding her team into the final and setting the stage for their championship victory.
