Gillingham successfully booked their place in the second round of the FA Youth Cup after a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Hertford Town.
Bermudian player Nayan Grant and his Gillingham teammates had to show resilience to secure the win, which was sealed by a brace from Stan Sargent and further strikes from Sullivan Booth and Michael Luxton.
The Gills started strongly, taking an early lead, but Hertford Town fought back fiercely, twice finding the net to keep the tie competitive. Gillingham's goals from Stan Sargent (2), Sullivan Booth, and Michael Luxton ultimately proved decisive in ensuring the visitors advanced.
However, the win came with late drama. Gillingham were forced to play the final ten minutes with ten men after Luxton was dismissed for a second bookable offence. The remaining players held firm to see out the result.
The victory earns Gillingham a home tie against Forest Green Rovers in the second round of the prestigious youth competition, with the young Gills aiming to continue their impressive cup run.
