Jarita Vickers has been elected as the new President of the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA), in a closely contested election held at Northlands.
Vickers secured the top position after a tight 8-7 vote, narrowly defeating previous President Doc Freddie Evans. The result marks a significant change in leadership for the island's athletics governing body.
The elections also saw several other key appointments confirmed to guide the BNAA forward. Those voted into executive roles included Dage Minors, Karen Tucker, Susan Robinson, and Ruby James, who will now serve alongside Vickers in steering Bermuda’s athletics programme, Syriah Lottimore is the only member from the past administration to remain.
The outcome signals a new era for the BNAA, with Vickers at the helm after a hard-fought presidential race.
Outgoing President Doc Evans said, “First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of our affiliates for the roles you continue to play in the life and growth of athletics in Bermuda. This sport thrives because of your dedication, your time, and your belief in our athletes. Tonight’s close vote reflects the passion and commitment within our athletics community. To the affiliates who entrusted me with your vote, thank you sincerely for your confidence and support. To those who did not, I equally thank you for your consideration and for the commitment you bring to the sport we all care deeply about. In my remarks tonight, I shared that this sport does not depend on one person, and I meant that. It takes a team to build and sustain a strong athletics community. To President Vickers and her incoming Board, I offer my sincere congratulations. I wish them every success as they lead the Association forward in service of Bermuda’s athletes. It has been my honour to serve this Association as a Board Member, General Secretary, and President. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in its growth and legacy of BNAA. The strength of this Association lies in its people, and I have every confidence it will continue to serve our athletes well.”
