The University of New England (UNE) women's tennis team, led by Bermudian Head Coach Jovan Jordan-Whitter, recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Thomas College in collegiate action at the Blue Cyclone Complex.
Due to unforeseen issues affecting court conditions, the match was condensed to a decisive format where play was halted immediately upon securing a team winner, with the Nor'easters proving ruthlessly efficient to quickly reach the required four points.
New England wasted no time establishing dominance in the two doubles matches that were contested.
The experienced #1 duo of Madeline Frank and Nora Hill cruised to a 6-2 victory, improving their impressive season record together to 8-3. They were matched by the #2 pair of Andie Lamontagne and Alyssa Fritschka, who also won their match comfortably by a 6-2 margin.
With a 2-0 lead established, the singles matches began swiftly:
Frank rolled over her opponent at #1 singles, securing a dominant 6-2, 6-0 result to put UNE just two points away from victory.
Attention then turned to #2 singles, where Nora Hill faced a tremendous battle against Thomas College's Keira Gilman. After a tough first set loss (6-3), Hill showed immense grit, racing to a 4-0 lead in the second to eventually level the match at 6-2. The contest went to a tense super tiebreaker, where Hill rallied from trailing both 3-6 and 6-8 before ultimately securing the critical point for UNE with a 10-8 win.
The decisive point came at #3 singles. Andie Lamontagne took the first set 7-5, finishing strong by claiming the last three games. She was leading 2-1 in the second set when her opponent retired, granting the Nor'easters the necessary fourth point for the 4-0 team victory.
At the moment the host side clinched the match, two other singles contests were halted late in their first sets, with UNE holding comfortable leads in both.
The win improves UNE's stellar record to 9-2 on the season under the guidance of Coach Jordan-Whitter.
