A late second-half penalty from Beth Humphrey meant K’Shaela Burch-Waldron's Sutton United Women's teammates were able to secure a point in a 1-1 draw against Millwall Lionesses. The result came in Sutton's return to the London Borough of Sutton, with Lucy Clark's side looking to bounce back from a disappointing weekend defeat.
Sutton United started the match with a lot of energy and were the better side in the first half, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Their inability to capitalize on their early dominance came back to haunt them on the stroke of halftime when Millwall took the lead. However, Sutton responded quickly in the second half when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Gabrielle Williams in the 50th minute. Humphrey stepped up and coolly converted the spot-kick to level the scores.
The entertaining contest saw both sides create chances for a winner, but neither could find the decisive goal, leaving the points to be shared. The result is a positive step for Sutton United, who will now turn their attention to their next fixture against Saltdean.
