Bermudian tennis player Daniel Phillips saw his promising run in the second week of the M15 Monastir ITF International Tennis Tournament come to an end, as he fell in a hard-fought three-set battle to Joaquin Guilleme from Nicaragua in the second qualifying round.
Phillips, who had successfully navigated his opening qualifying match, started strongly against Guilleme, taking the first set with a confident 7-5 scoreline. However, the Nicaraguan fought back fiercely, shifting the momentum to claim the second set 6-3, forcing a decisive third set.
In the crucial final set, Guilleme continued to carry his momentum, ultimately securing the victory with a 10-3 win in the super tie-break.
Despite the defeat, Phillips's performances in Monastir over the past two weeks highlight his increasing competitiveness on the professional circuit. Having successfully qualified and secured a main draw win in the previous week, and then fighting through to the second round of qualifying this week, the experience gained against tough international opponents like Guilleme will prove invaluable as he continues to climb the ranks.
