Adam Hall and his Biloxi Shuckers teammates battled back valiantly from a three-run deficit, but ultimately succumbed to a 4-3 extra-innings defeat against the Birmingham Barons at Keesler Federal Park. The loss in the Sunday series finale marks the end of their current run of games before the four-day All-Star Break.
The Barons seized an early lead, with Jacob Gonzalez's RBI single and Caden Connor's RBI double giving them a 2-0 advantage in the first inning. William Bergolla extended their lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the third.
However, the Shuckers, known for their resilience, began to chip away. Hall was instrumental in the comeback, driving in two runs with a double in the second inning and a single in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 3-2. The equaliser came in the fifth when Luis Lara scrambled home on a single from Mike Boeve, tying the game at 3-3.
The contest remained deadlocked through the regulation nine innings, forcing it into extra innings. In the top of the tenth, Jacob Gonzalez delivered a decisive sacrifice fly to centre field, giving the Barons a 4-3 lead. Birmingham's Zach Franklin then shut down the Shuckers in order in the bottom of the tenth, securing his third save of the series.
Despite the narrow defeat, Hall enjoyed a productive outing for Biloxi. He recorded a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 at the plate, and reached base three times. Hall also showcased his defensive prowess, recording the Shuckers’ Southern League-leading 22nd outfield assist of the year in the first inning, combining with Ethan Murray to throw out Jacob Gonzalez at the plate.
Hall and the Shuckers will now enjoy a four-day All-Star Break before returning to action on Friday against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium. First pitch for that encounter is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
