The 2025 Pan American Road Championships commenced in Punta del Este, Uruguay, with Bermuda being represented by a talented trio of cyclists: Kaden Hopkins, Nic Narraway, and Charlotte Millington.
The first Bermuda cyclist in action was the promising young rider Millington, who competed in the Junior Women’s Individual Time Trial.
This Pan American Championships marked Millington’s debut at this level. Competing in the fiercely contested 17–18 Age Group, she lined up against a formidable field that included some of the continent's top junior cyclists – reigning champions and international medallists hailing from Colombia, Chile, and other strong cycling nations.
Facing the largest and most competitive field ever assembled in this category at the Pan American Championships, Millington demonstrated her resilience and talent. She held her own impressively, finishing in 11th place out of 17 riders. She completed the 13.1-kilometre course along the scenic Rambla Lorenzo Batlle Pacheco in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in a time of 21 minutes and 25.38 seconds.
The gold medal was claimed by Luciana Osorio Bentancur from Colombia, who clocked a winning time of 18 minutes and 50.66 seconds. Her compatriot Estefania Castillo Lopez secured the silver medal, finishing in 19 minutes and 22.06 seconds. The podium was completed by Marlen Rojas Lescot from Chile, who took the bronze medal with a time of 19 minutes and 35.72 seconds.
Millington's 11th-place finish in her first Pan American appearance is a commendable achievement, showcasing her potential on the continental stage against some of the best junior riders in the Americas. The experience gained from competing in such a high-calibre event will undoubtedly be invaluable for her future development in the sport.
