Bermudian Runners Tackle Historic Boston Marathon

Several runners proudly flying the Bermuda flag were among the estimated 30,000 participants who took on the iconic 129th edition of the Boston Marathon on Monday. The renowned 26.2-mile race commenced in Hopkinton shortly after 9 a.m., leading athletes through a series of Massachusetts towns towards the famous finish line on Boylston Street in Boston.

The runners and enthusiastic spectators were treated to near-perfect marathon conditions, with abundant sunshine and temperatures hovering around the seasonal average, making for an enjoyable day for all involved.

The elite races saw John Korir claim victory in the men's division, continuing a remarkable family tradition as his older brother Wesley had previously won the prestigious event in 2012. In the women's elite race, Sharon Lokedi clinched the title, setting a new course record in the process.

Among the thousands of runners tackling the historic course were several athletes representing Bermuda, each with their own personal goals and stories.

Former Bermuda Day Half Marathon Female Champion Rose-Anna Hoey crossed the finish line in a commendable time of 3 hours, 16 minutes, and 25 seconds. Her effort placed her 8,993rd overall in the massive field. Among the female runners, she finished 1,764th and secured 199th position in the competitive 40-44 age group division.

Anna Laura Hocking completed the gruelling course in 3 hours, 46 minutes, and 8 seconds. She finished 17,398th overall, was the 6,251st female finisher, and placed 927th in the 45-49 age group division.

Ashley Thompson was the 17,540th runner to reach the finish, clocking a time of 3 hours, 46 minutes, and 49 seconds. He was the 11,164th male finisher and finished 1,788th in the 40-44 age group division.

Gabriela Martin completed the marathon in 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 36 seconds, finishing as the 3,561st runner in the 18-39 age group division and 17,731st overall. She was the 6,442nd female to cross the line.

Colm Homan finished shortly after, crossing the line as the 17,818th runner with a time of 3 hours, 47 minutes, and 59 seconds. He was the 11,302nd male finisher and placed 1,404th in the 50-54 age group division.

Natalie Price completed the marathon in 4 hours, 43 minutes, and 2 seconds, finishing 25,035th overall. She was the 10,371st female finisher and placed 1,591st in the 45-49 age group division.

Sarah Browne also completed the challenging event, clocking a time of 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds. She was the 25,807th runner to finish overall, the 10,792nd female finisher, and placed 1,639th in the 45-49 age group division.

The participation of these Bermudian runners in the 129th Boston Marathon highlights their dedication and perseverance in tackling one of the world's most iconic road races. Their achievements, alongside the elite winners, contribute to the rich tapestry of stories that unfold annually on the streets between Hopkinton and Boston.
