Robin Selley and Elektra Smith have begun their quest for Qualification to the Junior Pan American Games Archery Competition in Argentina, accompanied by Head Coach Ross Roberts. The pair are competing in the 2nd Qualifier, facing a challenging field of international archers.
After the first day of competition, which consisted of two rounds in the Recurve Under 21 Women's Division, Robin Selley has positioned herself within the top 10. Selley demonstrated consistency and accuracy, shooting a first-round score of 286 followed by a second-round score of 279. Her total score of 565 after 72 arrows places her in a strong position as the competition progresses.
Elektra Smith, who is relatively new to international competition at this distance, faced a significant challenge. Having competed in her first international event at 18 meters in January, she is now testing her skills at the longer distance required for this qualifier. Smith shot a first-round score of 195 and a second-round score of 191, finishing the day with a total score of 386 in 28th place. This experience is invaluable for Smith, as she gains exposure to high-level competition and adapts to the demands of the longer distance.
The competition in Argentina provides a crucial opportunity for Selley and Smith to showcase their abilities and vie for a place in the Junior Pan American Games. Selley's strong start indicates her potential, while Smith's participation provides valuable experience for her continued development.
Head Coach Ross Roberts will be providing guidance and support to the archers as they navigate the remainder of the competition. The focus will be on maintaining consistency, improving accuracy, and adapting to the conditions. The Bermudian archers are determined to represent their country with pride and strive for their best performances. The competition continues, and the archers will be looking to build on their initial efforts and achieve their goals.
