The National Sports Center was abuzz with energy and excitement as the Department of Sport and Recreation, in collaboration with the Bermuda School Sports Federation, hosted the Inter School Primary School Cross-Country Finals. The event brought together students from primary, public, and home schools for an afternoon of healthy competition and school pride.
Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, Owen Darrell, emphasized the importance of such events, stating, "It is great when we see our young people embracing in healthy competition and representing their schools with such pride. Events like this not only promote physical fitness but also foster community spirit and teamwork."
Duncan Simons of Saltus claimed victory in the Over 9 Boys' race with an impressive time of 9:55.04. This performance contributed to Saltus securing first place in the Boys' Division with 29 points. Warwick Academy finished second with 109 points, and Somerfield took third place with 137 points.
In the Girls' Over 9 category, Kieera Samuels from St. George's Prep took the individual title with a time of 10:52.11. However, Warwick Academy's strong team performance secured them the Girls' Over 9 title with 39 points. BHS finished second with 65 points, and Saltus secured third place with 82 points.
Molan Horrobin from Saltus was crowned the Under 9 Boys' champion, crossing the finish line in 8:11.81. Saltus continued their strong showing, winning the Under 9 Boys' Division with 52 points, followed by Warwick Academy in second place with 97 points, and Elliot in third with 103 points.
Lilliana Corbett led Warwick Academy to victory in the Under 9 Girls' Division, winning the individual race in 9:25.71. Warwick Academy's team effort earned them the division title with 51 points. Saltus finished second with 73 points, and BHS finished third with 98 points.
"At the Department, we emphasise that Sport Matters, and yesterday, we witnessed the spirit of sporting excellence shine through. The determination and enthusiasm displayed by the young athletes were truly inspiring. Everyone who crossed the line was a winner and represented their schools with pride," said Darrell.
