Over 200 runners from 12 schools braved the challenging Arboretum course at the 2025 Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross Country Championships. Four athletes emerged victorious, claiming Divisional Titles.
Warwick Academy's Naomi MacGuinness cruised to a commanding win in the Under-13 Girls' race, finishing in 12:22. Her teammate, Colette Durkin, secured second place in 13:15, while Somersfield Academy's Evelyn Fahy finished third in 13:20. Despite MacGuinness's individual victory, Saltus Grammar School took the team honours with 47 points, followed by Bermuda High School (BHS) in second with 57 points, and Warwick Academy in third with 62 points.
The Under-13 Boys' race saw a dominant performance from Whitney Institute Middle School's Hasim Ming, who crossed the finish line in 11:58, a full 25 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Saltus Grammar's Spencer Halderman finished second in 12:23, and Warwick Academy's Sami Luber took third place in 12:26. This time, Warwick Academy claimed the team title with 53 points, edging out Saltus, who also scored 53 points but lost on a tie-breaker. Somersfield Academy finished third with 94 points.
Warwick Academy continued their strong showing in the Over-13 Girls' race, with Sofia Leclerc taking first place in 13:44. BHS runners filled the other podium positions, with Isla Cooze finishing second in 14:09 and Avery Taylor third in 14:49. Warwick Academy also won the team event in this division, scoring 38 points. BHS came second with 47 points, and Saltus finished third with 63 points.
Saltus Grammar School dominated the Over-13 Boys' race, placing five runners in the top nine and easily securing the team prize with a low score of 25 points. Rory Shepherd led the Saltus contingent, winning the race in 11:43. Teammate Adam Cenzer finished third in 12:23. Whitney Institute's Timothy Pearman split the Saltus duo, finishing second in 12:10. Warwick Academy finished second in the team standings with 89 points, while Whitney Institute finished third with 92 points.
