Bermuda's Under-17 Women's National Team kicked off their Concacaf Women's Under-17 Championship qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over the Cayman Islands at the Estadio José Antonio Figueroa Freyre in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
Daley Outerbridge proved to be the hero for Bermuda, scoring twice to secure the win. Outerbridge opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, assist by Milan Gibbons-Thomas giving Bermuda a 1-0 lead heading into half-time. She then doubled the advantage when she struck a loose ball in the area in the 53rd minute, putting the game beyond the reach of the Cayman Islands.
This victory marks a positive start for Bermuda, who are aiming to progress to the group stage of the Concacaf Women's Under-17 Championship for the third time. They previously reached the group stage in 2018 and 2022.
Bermuda's starting line-up featured a blend of youth and experience, with Jayla Peets-Butterfield captaining the side. Coach Gary Adams will be pleased with her team's performance, particularly the clinical finishing of Outerbridge.
With this win, Bermuda currently sits in second place in the group standings, behind hosts Puerto Rico, who defeated Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 3-0 in the opening match of the qualifiers.
Bermuda will be looking to build on this positive start when they face Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in their next match. A victory in that game would put them in a strong position to qualify for the next stage of the competition.
