Bermudian golfers Oliver Betschart and Jarryd Dillas endured a difficult opening round at the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Both players faced challenges on the Pilar Golf Club course, with Betschart finishing in a tie for 52nd place at 2-over par and Dillas further down the leaderboard in 90th after an 8-over par 80.
Betschart's round started with a Bogey and a Double Bogey, putting him 3-over par after just two holes. However, he showed resilience with back-to-back Birdies to recover some ground. A steady run of pars saw him make the turn at 1-over par. Despite a late surge with a Birdie on the 16th, a Double Bogey on the 17th hampered his progress, leaving him with a 2-over par finish.
Dillas faced an even tougher start, with a Double Bogey on his opening hole (the 10th). He battled to find consistency, carding a mix of Pars and Bogeys on the front nine to reach the turn at 4-over par. A Triple Bogey on the 3rd hole proved costly, and despite a late Birdie, he finished the day at 8-over par.
While the first round proved challenging, both Betschart and Dillas will be determined to bounce back in the remaining rounds. They face an uphill battle to climb the leaderboard, but their experience and determination will be crucial as they aim to improve their positions in this prestigious tournament.
