IslandStats Reflects on a Memorable 2024 in Bermudian Sport

As 2024 is now closed, Islandstats.com takes a look back at a year filled with memorable moments and impressive achievements in Bermudian Sport. From the international stage to local competitions, athletes across a variety of disciplines showcased their talent and dedication, making it a year to remember.

Olympics & Paralympics:

Bermuda was proudly represented at the Paris Olympic Games by Jah-Nhai Perinchief, Dara Alizadeh, Adriana Penruddocke, Jack Harvey, Emma Harvey, Tyler Smith, Erica Hawley, and Dame Flora Duffy. Jessica Lewis and Yushae Andrade flew the flag for Bermuda at the Paralympic Games.

Football:

Domestic Success: PHC Zebras clinched the Premier Division title, Devonshire Colts dominated the First Division with an undefeated season, and St. George's Colts made history by winning the FA Challenge Cup for the first time.
International Representation: Nahki Wells continued to shine for Bristol City in the Championship, Khano Smith guided Rhode Island FC to the USL Championship final, and Zeiko Lewis played a key role in Union Omaha's USL League One triumph. David Bascome led the Baltimore Blast to another successful season in the Major Arena Soccer League.
Collegiate Achievements: Bermudian footballers made their presence felt on the US collegiate scene, with Andrew Armstrong earning national recognition for his outstanding freshman season at the University of Dayton. Peter Silvester received Scholar All-America honours, and Joshua Joseph was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team.
Women's Football: Shaun Goater took the helm as interim manager of Aston Villa Women, while Mia Fishel celebrated a Women's English Premier Division title with Chelsea.

Cricket:

International Triumph: Bermuda were crowned champions of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Americas Qualifiers.
Domestic Dominance: Somerset Cricket Club won the coveted Cup Match Classic, Bailey's Bay claimed the Eastern County Cup, and Willow Cuts were crowned Western County champions. St. George's Cricket Club secured both the Premier Division 50-over title and the T20 KO Cup, while Bailey's Bay won the Premier Division T20 league title.

Bermuda Day Classics:

Half-Marathon Derby: Lamont Marshall and Gayle Lindsay defended their titles in the 115th Bermuda Day Half-Marathon Derby.
Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race: Matt Boys and Caitlin Conyers emerged victorious in the 2024 Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race.

Other Sporting Highlights:

Carifta Games: Jake Brislane won two medals at the Carifta Games in Grenada, while Bermuda's swimmers brought home 23 medals from the Carifta Aquatic Championships in the Bahamas.
Triathlon: Bermudian triathletes secured 13 medals at the CARIFTA Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships.
Sailing: Benn Smith and Christian Ebbin won the Edward Cross Long Distance Comet Race, Rockal Evans enjoyed success in the Australian Twilight Spinnaker Series, and young Bermudian sailors gained valuable experience at the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta.
Motorsport: Scott Barnes had a stellar karting season in the USA, winning two national championships and numerous races.
Athletics: Brian Wellman joined the University of Kansas track & field coaching staff, bringing his world-class expertise to the Jayhawks program.
Harness Racing: Kiwon Waldron continued to impress on the US harness racing circuit, securing wins and top finishes at Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago.
Swimming: Bermuda added two more medals to its tally at the XXXVI CCCAN Swimming Championships.
Beach Volleyball: Bermudian beach volleyballers competed on the NORCECA Tour, gaining valuable international experience.
Cycling: Conor White led Bermuda to four medals at the Caribbean Road Cycling Championships.
