Erica Hawley set a new National Record in the finishing 12th competing in the FireKracker 5k Women’s Elite 5k in Fort Collins in Colorado.
Hawley clocked a time of 17.09, Mahlet Mulugeta won the race clocking a time of 1:09.
An excited Hawley posted on social media, “A nice little tune-up pre-Paris,” Hawley went on to say, “And it got me super pumped to get in race mode again. I had the chance to race in the Elite Field here and managed to snag a little altitude Personal Best of 17:09.
“And what’s cooler? I broke a 42-year-old record for the Bermuda Women’s Road 5k! (feeling thankful that Flora Duffy hasn’t done many road running races haha).
“I know it’s America’s Day, but I’m feeling extra proud to represent Bermuda at every level of competition. Next one: the big dance.”
