Austin Peay overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat David Patrick’s Sacramento State, 74-71, in the final round of the SoCal Challenge at The Pavilion on the JSerra campus.
Things looked good at halftime when Sacramento State carried a 44-35 lead into the locker room. However, the combination of them shooting 6-of-23 from the field and Austin Peay attempting 25 free throws in the second half was too much to overcome.
In reality, the game was decided at the free-throw line. Both teams attempted 32 free throws in a game that featured 46 combined fouls, but Austin Peay made 24 (75%) of those freebies, and Sacramento State converted 21 (66%).
