From the early matches, it would appear that the referees will be kept busy during the night.
The first match of the Day on Court 2 saw the Women’s Number 2 Seed Nadia Pfister from Switzerland survive winning a four-set battle with Ingy Hammouda from Egypt 3 – 1.
The second match of the day on the court saw the Men’s Number One Seed American Faraz Khan bow out of the tournament falling 3 – 1 to Seif Shenawy from Egypt. This particular match saw referee Noah Browne issuing warnings for wasting time, also asking the players to be mindful of the contact, which saw Khan hit the floor three times from facial contact.
The Men’s Number Two Seed would also fall on the night as Owain Taylor from Wales defeated American Christopher Gordon 3 – 2 in a 61 minute battle.
The next match saw referee Micah Franklin also challenged as the Women’s Number Three Seed Karina Tyma from Poland come from a game down to defeat Lojayn Gohary from Egypt 3 – 1. Both Tyma and Gohary challenged calls for obstruction on several occasions with Franklin forced to make the call.
